Maria Montessori was an Italian physician and educator. The first woman to receive a medical degree in Italy. She believed in education of the “whole child,” academics inseparable from social and emotional growth. She believed children could teach themselves more effectively than anyone else could teach them. There are four basic principles within the Montessori method: The absorbent mind, The sensitive period, The prepared environment, The attitude of the adult. There are five areas in Montessori teaching method: Practical life, sensorial, math, language, culture.
